[Solved] Partial unavailability BIT from/to KPN and other parties
Around 15:43 we received the first calls that the network from BIT was not available. After asking it was primarily the case from the network of KPN and Tele2.
In an attempt to solve this problem we have placed a filter around 15:56 on our transit with KPN. This did not solve the problem.
After further troubleshooting we found that at 15:36 one of our peering parties has unjustified advertised (BGP Hijack) over 6000 prefixes on one of two peeringsessions that we have with them. This party could not handle the traffic, which resulted that we were not available for KPN, Tele2 and other parties and vice versa. Around 16:10 we have shut the peeringsessions with this party. After that the networks became available again via the correct paths.
In the meantime we had contact with this peeringparty and they have fixed the configuration error.
The incident has been resolved. If you have any questions regarding this incident, please contact the Customer Care department by phone on +31 (0)318 648 688 or by email on support@bit.nl.
